do we submit them to the individual school or fafsa in the mail?

You don’t submit them unless you are asked to. If you are verified (30% chance) the school will contact you and ask for the required documentation (usually tax returns, W2s, a verification form) and you will send it to the school by mail. (I think there might have been a faxing option).

If you are not verified and are not asked for anything there is no need to submit anything. As far as I know you never send anything to FAFSA itself.

oohhok.
what does verified mean

About 30% of FAFSAs are selected for verification which means they want to see documentation supporting some of the entries on your FAFSA (usually signed copies of parent and student tax returns, parent and student W2s, a form where you list some additional data such as names, adresses and ages of people included in number in household etc). If your EFC has a * by it it means you have been selected for verification (random selection generally). The school will let you know what to sent.
