UT requires that I submit essay C (on apply Texas) as well as my choice of either essay A or B. Is there an advantage to submitting all three (scholarships or anything?) or should I only submit two?
ka-Bump
I had the same question. I went ahead and wrote all three, but I was wondering if they boosted my chances of getting accepted into my program.
Yeah. I have automatic admission and had all three written too, but I wanted to know if submitting an extra essay would give me any benefits. I heard from one person that they actually prefered that applicants do not submit all three essays, so I wasn’t sure
They don’t have time to read three. By submitting three, you are giving the power of deciding which two to read to the ADCOMS. Better to have a variety of people read all three - people that know you. Ask those people which ones sound the most like you - add the most to your application package - etc. Then keep working on those two.
Hold on to the other essay for applications to honors programs or for outside scholarship applications.
Ok, i guess i’ll do that then. Thanks
It is a common myth that submitting more than the two required essays will improve your chances. The computer-based system UT Admissions uses for application review has only two fields for essay scores. Therefore, any third (or fourth, or fifth) essay you submit will go unscored.
Quantity is not a substitute for quality, and UT is looking for quality. In my experience as an application reviewer, writing more than two essays dilutes the quality of all your essays. High school students on the whole do not have college-level writing skills (even though they may think they do), and the additional time/effort you would take writing additional essays would be much better spent re-writing and polishing the two essays actually required.
@PastePotPete I have already written all three essays because the third is required for others schools that i am applying to. Thanks for the advice though. I’m only going to submit two.
@Copperrrrrrrrrrr It definitely won’t hurt to submit more than one if you already have good essays written and they’re (in your and other’s minds) equally well done. I submitted multiple essays last year because I had them already written for other schools and they therefore were all edited and proofread 20 billion times, so why not. I ended up getting into my top choice major (which is pretty competitive) as an out-of-state student. I think this kind of strategy would work best at a private school that weighs essays heavily in the application process.
Two is plenty. I am trying to remember: is there another (third even fourth) for honors? Save your creative ammo for that essay.
