The ApplyTexas application has a total of three essays for UT. I was told that unless you are the valedictorian of your class, you should be doing all three of the essays. Is that a good idea or would I be fine doing the two? Thanks.

I actually have never seen anyone in person who wrote all 3 essays.

I heard that 3rd essay can help to get scholarships if you write about financial struggles, homeless shelter, or a single parent family with several kids.

If you have some medical or personal explanation for really bad grades one year, or tests scores, probably the 3rd essay might help in holistic review. For auto-admits I do not believe it matters.

Here is the third essay topic that I am talking about:

Considering your lifetime goals, discuss how your current and future academic and extra-curricular activities might help you achieve your goals.

Are you sure most people don’t write this one?

I would recommend reading the whole page. That prompt is required. Along with that prompt, you can write either an A, B, D (If you’re applying to the majors listed for D), or S. If you want to write a third essay, go for it, but I wouldn’t.

Well, they have new requirements for 2014 admission. Before there were 2 required essays about 1. a person of importance 2. an issue of importance, and 1 special circumstances essay (usually for scholarship purposes)

This is what they have now.

Only 2 essays are required, and the one you mentioned is a required essay.

Since it is all very new I would suggest to contact your admission counselor
They are all assigned by high schools/regions

Those are not the essay topics. UT uses the ApplyTexas application. That can be found here:

Ah, I see. UT has updated their admission essays page. Those are now the same essays as the link I just provided.

I believe you HAVE to do essay C. And then you choose A or B. Then if you want, you can do essay D (major specific) or S (special circumstance) Don’t just do A and B. You have to do C! Click on the link below:

Right, so there are 2 essays for UT.

My son has always been told by current students and counselors to do all 3 essays. In his case it would be A ,B and C.

The only issue with that is there is an option between essay A and B - you must pick one. And you must do C.

He may need to do another one if his major requires it.

From what I’ve been told UT requires C and either A or B. A&M requires A & B but not C. So if you are applying to both you will be doing A, B and C.
