<p>You can submit separate essays to different schools. The key is to only have listed in "My Colleges" the schools that you want a particular essay to go to. After that submission, you can modify your essay and send it to another group of colleges listed in "My colleges".</p>

so just to clarify since i'm applying to Caltech early action:</p>
<p>i would remove all other schools from the my colleges list?
then, i would submit my essays to caltech
and submit my app
next thing
i add all those colleges back onto my colleges
and everything works out fine??</p>

<p>NOOOOOOOOOOOO u dont have to do that.
See, on the submit page you have the option to tick which school you want to submit your app to... So just tick the one to whom you want to send it.</p>

so i write whatever essay and what not
tick "college ABC etc"</p>

if i can upload a different essay
tick "college XYZ" but not ABC</p>
<p>then submit???</p>

<p>ya... plus u also have the option to create completely different versions of your app.. which is allowed only after you've submitted it at least once.</p>

<p>spideyunlimited- how can i create a different version??? i tried to go to type something in, but the boxes are just grayed out.</p>
<p>click on the help button in one of the tabs on the main page of the commonapp website
then go through their info there about creating multiple versions. IT's explained there properly :)</p>
