Subscore Inequality

Hey everyone! I’ve been wondering a lot lately about how it looks to colleges if my SAT subscores are kind of unequal. On the new SAT, I scored a 760 on the reading/writing section and a 660 on the math section. I’m applying as an anthropology major to all my colleges, but I’m making it pretty clear that I intend to go to medical school. My reading/writing score is always in the middle 50 for the top colleges I’m applying to (namely Stanford and UPenn), but my math score… not so much. Anyone have any idea how this will affect decisions? Thanks in advance :slight_smile:

Bump!

Bumpy bump bump O:-)

Nobody here works for admissions so your guess is as good as ours. In general I’d say that unless there is something exceptional about your application then a lower than average standardized test score will negatively impact your chance of admission especially at schools like Stanford and Penn that have admission rates under 10% (but that seems pretty obvious). Many people have unequal subscores so I don’t think that will be a huge factor – especially since colleges recognize that you would be free to change majors once you are at the school.

An unequal score is not an issue, but anything below 700 is very low for Ivies. If you are still a high school junior, you should take some time to study more for the math section and retake the SAT to get the scores up. Many of the students applying to those schools have close to perfect scores in all areas of the SATs and still don’t get in to Stanford and Ivies (in my experience looking at Naviance from my school). Check Naviance for your school.

@happy1 @SueAnneW Thanks so much!! :slight_smile:
