I think I can avoid alcohol for two semesters if it means getting into the Quad (assuming I'll have mouse traps available)...good idea?
It's not like many Penn students will be applying for the substance-free residential program, so I guess I'll be at an advantage?

Also, is it a bad idea for a freshman to live in the high rises? I'm looking at Harnwell and Harrison...(well...I can't exactly live in Rodin.) I don't want to miss out on the freshman experience, but at the same time, I'm not a huge fan of 1. mice (quad), 2. cockroaches (quad, hill), 3. no AC (hill, kings court), 4. places with no pianos (stouffer/mayer hall). wow, i sound really picky. but yeah, would i still be able to make friends if I lived in one of the high rises?

^ you could do the freshman group thing in the high rises. (don’t remember what it is called, but it is one or two high rise floors dedicated to freshman) You won’t be in the Quad, but you will have enough freshman around you to not feel isolated.

Are you assuming you won’t be able to get into Ware or Riepe? Fisher seems like a worst-case scenario…Not that alcohol-free is a bad thing, just that the people going for such a residential program are probably not all that social (and yeah that’s a blanket generalization). I’m in engineering, which is probably the most geographically isolated relative to the majority of available housing (barring Hill, which sucks). Can anyone say from experience how long the walk is from say the apartments or the Quad to the engineering classes? Is it unreasonable for an engineer to live that far out?

AHHH. I want Fisher, but I CANNOT deal with everyone being all gung ho anti-alcohol. I was hoping it was just a small minority of the house. Also, MICE? Seriously? I really hope not.

awww now you guys are convincing me not to go to fisher. I wanted to put it as #1 since it’s the only quad dorm with a fitness center inside (I think)

Fisher apparently also has private bathrooms according to that brochure… No, I’m going up the 17-19th gonna try to experience the spring fling haha

could someone make this clear? does living in fisher but NOT in the substance living program mean that you still have to be alcohol-free/that there are no parties with alcohol at fisher?
