success stories?

To make a long story short I was NOT motivated when I entered my CCC after HS. Did not know what I wanted to do, so therefore did not stay focused. Needless to say my gpa has suffered. Now that I have it all figured out and am extremely motivated, I am desperately trying to raise my GPA.

Does anybody have any success stories? Where maybe your GPA wasn't so great...but you ended up rectifying it and transferring to a great school?

You'll have to search for the thread. I've read it here, somewhere. If I can recall, there were some successful students; so it's possible. If you can't get into a good school now, you can definitely work hard towards a good graduate school.

i just ate a full large ham and pineapple pizza

...great success!

The success lies within the beer can head crush.

mah hed asploded when i did that

yup pizza. ordered 5 of them yesterday and successfully found parking in westwood.

I have a good one, I think.

When I first started CC, I got a 3.4 during my first semester. Things were going well for a couple semesters...

After my best friend committed suicide I pretty much lost all motivation and failed an entire semester. My overall GPA plummeted to a dismal 1.7. Two years, two majors, and several mediocre grades later, my GPA crawled up to a 2.4 or so. This was when I decided I needed to visit a counselor. They basically told me there was no chance of getting into a UC and I should concentrate on CSU instead. This was last summer. I decided I was going to do my best and prove them wrong.

I got straight A's, used academic renewal to erase that horrible semester that caused all my problems, and I'm currently at a 3.06. This may not seem impressive, but by the time I transfer I'll have 79 units and a 3.25 grade point average.

So far I've been accepted to UCI and UCSC, and waiting on Davis, Cal, and LA. But I'm perfectly content with transferring to either Irvine or Santa Cruz.

Hope that boosts your spirits somewhat. If you screw up early on, it is definitely possible to turn things around and get accepted to some good schools. Good luck.

Lord Darwin: I am so sorry for your loss. But, your story did boost my spirits. :) I was feeling like it was a lost cause, but...I still have ALL my major prep work to do and I currently have a 2.76 cumulative/ 2.60 UC transferable GPA with about 25ish units. I still think there is a lot of hope, but it feels so far out of reach sometimes!

Anybody else with a similar situation?

I graduated HS with 2.8. My GPA was only 2.6 after 1st year at the CCC. Got my act together and was admitted to SD with 3.53. Spent total of 3 years at the community college.

congrats elco :) Enjoy SD!
I will be at CCC for another 2 years

My freshman year at CU Boulder consisted of 6 f's, 1 W and 1 D. And even after that I didnt do to great for a little while. I then got motivated and my last ~40 units have been straight A's. Im now back to about a 3.0. I have straight As again this semester and am waiting to see where I get accepted. I applied to UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, USD, and USC. I already got denied from UCSB, but that is because i messed up on my app., and they thought that I attained senior standing, so I corrected that mistake for UCSD. We'll see what happens. Work hard, and good things will happen though. I will tell you that. Everything happens for a reason.

nixietink - Thanks for the kind words. I was in a far worse boat than you are, GPA-wise. When I had a 2.4, I was around 55 or 60 units. With only 25 units, you could easily make that 2.7 sky-rocket to 3.5+ territory. Especially with two more years to go. Best of luck to you!

Also, what is your major?

1.7 Fall 06, Academic Probation, 4.0 Winter Session, 3.4 Spring, 3.6 Summer, 3.0 Fall, 3.5 Winter.

Got into SD/Irvine so far.

you can do it! ratemyprofessor is your best friend

evo: GOOD LUCK!! I am sure all your hard work will pay off. I saw your thread on the senior standing (at least I think it was you). What is your major?

Lord Darwin: You're welcome and thank you for the push. My major is Ecology Behavior and Evolution. I want to transfer to UCLA, I'll be TAP certified so we'll see how it goes in a few years.
What is yours?

lilxlazyboi: I LOVE ratemyprofessor.com. I swear by it, lol. Oh and congrats on your acceptances.

These stories are awesome. Honestly, whenever I don't want to do homework I come on College Confidential and it motivates me reallyyy quick seeing everyone's GPA, lol.

I'm an ecology behavior and evolution major too! I haven't noticed any others on here

mattn: Really?! That is so exciting!! I thought I was the only one, haha. What made you pick EBE?

I think this is kind of blasphemous for a life science major to say, but I think cells are kind of boring. I really like animal behavior and evolution, and ebe was the closest I could find to doing that.

What about you?

Exact same. Animal behavior and why animals react to their environment is VERY interesting to me. I switched my major probably 10 times trying to find the right one.

I'm an English major. I'm planning to annihilate upper division coursework with a concentration in Creative Writing, publish a short story or two, and complete a novel for my senior project (and work on a literary mag). Then it's graduate school for an MFA or PhD! I have a long haul ahead of me :(

My GPA is around a 2.8ish.
Admitted: UCSB (3/17/08)
Pending: UCLA, UCB, UCSD
I'm definitely not expecting to get into LA, Berkeley, or SD with a 2.8 so I have come to terms with the reality that I'll be attending UCSB this fall. BUT I'd still like to see my rejection letters as confirmation so I can stop checking those stupid admissions sites every 5 seconds.
