I read this today, parts of essays that got kids in last year published in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. Thought they might be interesting to this year's applicants.

I wouldn't necessarily use those as examples of great essays. A few friends and I agree that they probably chose those essays more because they featured diverse students as opposed to good writing. I felt that some of them were really cliche.

I don't think it's about the best written. It's about reaching the adcom and having them want you on campus. From the kid in Iraq to the boy who cooks, I could see why they believed these kids would making interesting class members. The proof is in the pudding, these are essays that stood out.

I asked DS if he knew any of these kids well enough to know how they're enjoying Dartmouth. After reading their stories I want to know what it was like to leave Iraq for Disneyland North and if the kids who live with chef biy are eating well. He refused to Blitz on my behalf! Anyone met them?

You could blitz them if you wanted to!

DS would kill me and it's so nice to have him home! Hope all you 12's are loving D as much as DS!

Patty, how is your friend enjoying the experience?
