Hi all,

I received the shock of my life twice today. I did the 2012/13 sat practice test and 2011/12 practice test available from the college board site and did so poorly in both that I'm pretty much stunned. I have been doing the blue book 2nd edition practice tests, scoring 740 on the last practice test 3 in the blue book. After doing the two practice tests mentioned, I fell to a 670 and was actually struggling! Can someone please explain what has happened here- very strange.

Cheers

Maybe it just wasn’t your day that day.

The Blue Book gives the best judgement on where you are standing at that moment.

If you consistently get over 700s in those tests, there is no reason which comes to mind which could lead to such a slump in your scores :)

This cheers me up a little bit, much appreciated :). Although, it must be a bad day for me today; it sucks.

I did the same with the 2011/12 and then doing poorly on the 2012/13 practice, except in my case it was from 800 to 660, which was a bit of a shock. I think it is probably just a case of a bad day or not being entirely focused, as a few marks wrong seem to make a big difference in the score. I would go through and look at the questions you got wrong to see if they look like ones you normally would have got right.

You’ve got to remember that the difference between 680 and 740 may only be 2-3 questions, depending on the curve. Just take it again another day and it’ll go back to normal(hopefully).

To be honest, I am getting the impression that the ‘practice papers’ are actually more difficult than the ones in the blue book. The first couple of questions feel harder than usual, which is a bit strange. I know the test is standardised and all that but I do feel the practice papers are tougher.

Thanks for all the advice, and yea I’ll take it again and see how I go.

Cheers

Just did another practice paper-2007/2008 official practice test, and I am convinced that these papers they are putting out are harder than the real ones in the blue book. I Went to do test 2 of the blue book and scored 750. Also, there are consecutive questions with so little space to work with, something that I have not seen at all, with the real ones in the blue book.
