Suggesions of computer science related summer camp

My son is in junior year. He likes programming related summer camp, for example, video game design. At the same time he'd try to finish his arts portfolio in summer. So I'm wondering are there any short (2-3 weeks) computer science related summer camps close to California? I also hope this camp experience can gain points for his college admission in the future. I heard that EPGY was not that good. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

LEADprograms.org at Caltech is a wonderful summer program. It is called the Computer Science Institute. Google sponsors the students and pays about 75% of the cost. Attending it was life changing for my DD and led to many incredible opportunities.

Also if you look in the summer schools forum here on cc you will find more programs for CS. I can’t think of others off the top of my head but there are many others.

For art he should look at innerspark which is the Californias Governor School. Also COSMOS may have some computer science courses. COSMOS is California’s Summer School for Science and Math. They are held at UC’s. Students who attend are given extra admission points on their UC applications.

Both programs have applications due in the next month.

My son attended several sessions of ID Tech Camp at Stanford and De Anza College when he was in high school, including one summer as a junior counselor. He had good experiences, with the java camp being particularly interesting to him. It didn’t give him points for college admission.

Thank you, itsv. I’ll definitely check LEADprograms.org. I knew COSMOS which is also a good choice.

Thanks, vballmom. My son took the ID tech camp last summer. He’s think of taking a different one.

Mathematica Summer Camp is accepting applications for students who took advanced math, programming, or computer science. www.mathematica-camp.org
