I'm a high school senior in India and really want to get into Harvard/USC/Brown. That said, I realize how admissions to these places can be a crapshoot so i'm trying to keep my options open and looking for some decent safeties that i wouldn't mind attending if rejected in the above three. So far I've properly decided on only DePaul. And perhaps IIT and Marquette. But I know I need atleast 2-3 more, so please could you guys help??
Important criteria are ...
1. Free/Low costing app
2. Decent college with a good computer science program
3. Solid financial aid to international students

As for my credentials well...I'm an ok student, come in the top 10 of my class...have a GPA just under 3.5, my SAT I score was not that good but an ok 2210 and i'm gonna retake in jan...and i got pretty good extracurriculars.

Since you’re an Int’l student and need F/A, you first have to identify schools that give F/A to international students (few do), and then come up with your list.

There’s no point in coming up with lists that include schools that give nothing to int’ls. Many state schools are prohibited from giving aid to international students, and many privates simply can’t afford to give much, either…

Do you know which schools give aid to int’l students and are “need blind”?

BTW…some are giving “aid” to int’ls, but they are student loans from the college. Do you want student loans?

I should have added that you need to identify schools that give a lot of F/A to internationals. Since you say that you need “solid aid” and you need free apps, that suggests that you can’t pay much towards your education.

Since college costs (tuition, room, board, books, etc) are running from $30k-55k for non-residents, a school like DePaul or ITT that only gives $12k per year to some int’ls is not going to work for you.

To get your visa to come here, you first have to demonstrate that you’ll have all your financial needs covered either by your family and/or by the school.

If your family is low-income, then you probably need to stick with the few schools that will meet 100% of demonstrated need for internationals.

I think you should start a thread with the title…

Besides Ivies, which schools meet 100% need to Int’ls without loans?

In the body of the post you can further ask which of these schools are “need blind” and which are “need aware”. You can mention that the thread about international aid doesn’t really answer this question. It only really lists the schools that give “some” aid to “some” internationals. You need full aid.

From the info that others post, you’ll be able to come up with a list of schools to apply to. However, I think the list will be rather short.

SUNY stony Brook has a very strong CS department. It cost about 28K for out of state student. If you can not get aids anywhere else, I suggest that you consider Stony Brook as your financial safety.
