Im a Business major with concentrations in Finance and Management and double minor in Spanish and Chinese. I have been searching high and low for a Business financial internship but to no avail. Our current economy is not helping much either. I am a junior in uni (New York area)

I've applied and had an in person interview with SEO though my future with them looks bleak.

1) Does anyone have any suggestions as to where i can apply for a paid internship?

Check out ConEd...not Wall Street, but it would at least be something to put on your resume (and paid.) They'll probably hire interns for all sorts of business positions...finance, accounting, procurement, etc. A good thing about utility companies is that the market is so structured through regulation that poor economic climates don't force the kind of cutbacks as at other corporations.

My summer plans...I'm currently co-oping (engineering) at a large oil company and am just going to stay here through the summer. I think I did the right thing by wrapping this all up in the fall. I noticed that the upcoming engineering career fair at my school (Michigan), has way fewer employers than usual. And I'm making $30/hour, which is way more than any internship/co-op I've seen...and I'll be able to pick up plenty of overtime hours starting in about two months. I got lucky...first company I talked to at the fall career fair, interviewed the next morning, got an offer a week later, and here I am. I have a feeling that offers at the winter career fair will be few and far between.

Thank you soo much!! I am definitley going to apply to Con Edison. Congrats on landing the Co-op. That is awesome!! What company are you working for?

Guess things have changed with Con Edison, since they stiffed every single intern/co-op from their jobs at their Manhattan building, and i bet all over the NY metro area. Even their GOLD program was on the back burner, at least they’re doing their best to bring that back this coming summer. And I would agree with you that utility companies would be more resistant to poor economic climates due to how they operate under regs, but then again ask any student who used to work at Con Edison, including myself. And since they let me go without even a full year’s worth of experience, it’s harder trying to get hired again from anybody else

“Based on the current economic climate and its effect on our customers Con Edison Of New York Inc. has eliminated the 2010 Summer Hire program as an austerity measure. We look forward to resuming the program in 2011 based on an improved economy.”
