Suggestions for a possibly above average student with Columbia U as a reach school

I'm entering senior year this September and I would be really greatful if someone could give me some suggestions for EC's that would help improve my chances at Columbia/scholarships.

First off, I am a South Asian female in the South. I go to a 4A public school in a university town with a medical school(but for 9th and 10th I went to another school that didn't offer a lot of APs). I think I would say I'm good in school, but not amazing, which is probably due to my bad study habits and procrastination.

My GPA: 3.96 unweighted, 4.96 weighted, which I hope to improve at least by midyear. Somewhere in the top 10%(Marshal)-which is about 28 people.
The grading scale is 4.0 regular/unweighted credit. 5.0 Honors, and 6.0 for AP

2006- I currently volunteer(since July) in the Cardiology Division of the medical school in stem cell and cardiac myocyte research five days a week, from 9am to about 5pm. I have not done much hands-on so far( I mostly tag along/shadow), but I recently did a protein electrophoresis and Western Blot on some cardiac myocytes. In the year-long class I am taking next year, I plan on continuing this job.

Other Stuff:
Not much. I'm really interested arts/crafts/tutoring

I'm also thinking of starting an art/mural painting club next year at school.

Thanks ahead of time for the input. Please be honest.

What appeals to you about Columbia? If you like NYC, look at NYU (match). If you like the core curriculum, look at Chicago (match-reach).

Your biggest problem right now is simply SATs. If you can get them above 2100 and preferably above 2200, you'll have a MUCH better shot at Columbia.

agree w/ pyroclastic. retake sats, possibly trying to get 2250+. also, U Columbia is not that great of a school for the money. look at NYU, Cornell, UChicago, etc. PM me if u have questions.

Thanks:) Yeah, my SATs are not high, so I am spending the summer preparing for it.
I really like NYC, but the thing is with NYU is that Carolina is just as good, perhaps better, and if I got in there, I could pay a lot less because I'm im state.
