Suggestions for Colleges to Apply to?

Hi guys!

So I'm a junior right now, and I'm compiling the list of colleges I'm applying to this fall, and I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone has :) Like any recommendations, so that I can consider a wider range of schools (that might be outside the scope of my knowledge).

My only requirement is that the location must be IN A CITY. Dartmouth is great, but I'm not the kind of person who would want to spend four years in the woods, haha

I have good grades, hard classes, and a perfect SAT score. My activities are sports and community service. I don't have any major awards or anything that makes me stand out.

I think I'm going to apply to like, one or two ivy leagues, and MIT. Otherwise, I'm thinking mostly about Rice, Tufts, and USC. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Oh and I’m not sure that this is the right place to post this, so sorry if it’s wrong (:

How are your finances for college? Full pay? Looking for merit aid? What major (or general field) are you looking for?

If you have perfect SAT scores, definitely apply to the University of Pittsburgh. They weigh SAT scores heavily in their merit scholarships including quite a few full tuition scholarships. It’s a great school and Pittsburgh is a great city to spend 4 years in. The campus has a very urban vibe. Students get a free bus pass and there are many cultural opportunities for which students get a great discount.
I see you will be applying to ivies- so Pitt as a safety would make sense. FYI my son had a perfect SAT score and near perfect grades, but did not get into an Ivy or MIT. CMU and JHU were too expensive, so he took the scholarship at Pitt and is very happy there.
If money is not an issue, other city schools I would consider are UW-Seattle, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, UT-Austin, Ohio State and Tulane. If you are considering small liberal arts schools, there are even more options.

BU, BC, Northeastern, GWU, CMU, Fordham…There are lots. Try using the college search tool here on CC or the College Navigator. Your search criteria so far are pretty broad so you will see lots of results.

Don’t forget to look in the Chicago area. I recently visited Northwestern and UChicago. They’re both reasonably close to Chicago and their campuses are beautiful… not to mention that they’re really great universities. Good luck on your college search!
