Hey guys this is to ask on behalf of a friend, she is very interested in doing a cs/ce/ se major and a minor/ second major ( which most probably is impossible) in film production but she does not have any prior experience in film making or programming.. So which college preferably in Canada and USA is great for the above stated combo? Btw she is an international student..
All suggestions and advices are highly appreciated! Thanks in advanced :)

2 programs fairly easy for admissions and not overly expensive.

U Iowa has solid programs in both.
Montana State same as above.

What are her stats? GPA? test scores?

What is her budget?

Is she fluent in English?

@mom2collegekids she is fluent in English. She scored 1780 in Sat but she is retaking it… I’m not sure about her budget but getting scholarship would be ideal… Her ecs are weak… only a few participation in few clubs… I think that would be her major disadvantage right?

ECs aren’t likely going to be an issue for the kind of schools someone with her SAT score.

Her SAT score is her weakness. Even if she raises it a bit, she’s not likely going to get scholarships. Scholarships for int’ls are limited and not many schools offer them…and they usually require MUCH higher SAT scores.

Find out her budget. THAT will determine where she should apply.

If she’s applying for Fall 13, then taking a later SAT score may be too late for scholarship consideration anyway. Many schools won’t accept later scores.

@mom2collegekids She is applying for Fall 14 and is retaking her sat next may or june… Around how much must she raise her sat scores in order to be consider for scholarship? Btw she is doing her first year of A lvls…

She would probably need at least a 2000+ to get considered for scholarships at the limited number of schools that will give them to int’ls. Not many will give them to int’ls, so that’s another problem.

To get bigger scholarships, she’d probably need 2100+

@mom2collegekids Thank you so much for the advice… Any suggestion of schools?

Anyone else?

Some of the southern schools will give an int’l large merit for high stats (2100+). The other regions of the country might require a 2280+ or so.

A number of the Alabama univs and I think LSU will give good merit for 2100+ SATs. However, those scholarships will mostly only go towards basic tuition. How much will her family pay for room, board, books, fees, travel, insurance, and personal expenses? For an int’l, that can be about $20k+ per year.

@mom2collegekids Her family can afford around $20k + i guess… not very sure though… anyways thank you so much! :)
