I don’t advice you to learn any vocab right now.
Learning alone will not provide with any improvement.
At the moment, try to improve your reading skills which could improve your CR score highly.

Zosilo,
How about Jane Austen “Emma” or “Pride and Prejustice”? About 500-700 pages I printed.
This will impove my CR score?

Zosilo,
In addition I can study a lot.About 10-12 hours per day.But I must know that I’m on right way and right direction.

*Pride and Prejudice.

[great books - book search, top 100 books](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Stay Motivated – BigFuture | College Board)
^
this is a list of books that can improve your reading skills.

Studying 10 hours per day is useless. I think students 2-3 hours per day is reasonable.
Try to make one or two complete practice tests each week and then analyze your solutions. Do this along with reading EFFECTIVELY by understanding the purpose of the author, narrator’s point of view , tone, etc…

For the two books you asked me about, I know neither of them so I can’t help you with them.

I like your desire to improve and I think you will able to achieve your goals.

as others already mentioned, simply memorizing 1000 words are not really going to help you improve your score. Try reading books to see how the sentences are structured, and try not to focus on the definitions of words. Just try to read them, not really hard ones, as you would read the books of your native language. Good luck!

Zosilo,
Thanks.Should I translate each new word and learn it?

I agree with some of the posters in that you need to think about improving your “english” before you improve your “SAT scores”

English language is the “tool” needed to do the SAT test, which is not a test of english but a test of aptitude and reasoning. If you have the aptitude and the reasoning ability or wutever it takes, then simply learning to speak the language better well will increase your score. (from my experience, at least)

In my opinion, Jane Austen’s books and the books recommended by Zosilo would be too hard for you right now. The fact that you found 250 new words in just 10 pages of the book pretty much shows your current lack of sufficient vocabulary needed to read such level of books. No point in reading something that you wouldn’t understand at all.

If I were you, I would start with some children’s books (not being condescending. i am speaking as a fellow non native speaker who has never lived in an anglophone counry) and
by watching some television in english (can be anything from CNN to CSI)

and please don’t think 10/12 on the essay would be that easy. I was thinking the exact same thing as you before I took it, but i ended up with an 8/12 on the essay (for both times I took the SAT), even though I only missed one question in the MC section.

I really like your positive attitude though. You will definitely improve. Good luck :)

Also, try reading some magazines or newspapers. TIME, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and slate.com are all good places to start. They have online versions, so you an look them up and start reading them.

impetuous,
I don’t think that I can gather 10/12 essay. I have Official Online Course, and there the automatic essay scored machine told to me that I have gor 10.One time it was 12.

Take the automated essay-grading machine with a large grain of salt…

OK. Now I’m dowloading these all books and I will print it all.I dowload from “manybooks”.

Lol, let’s not throw confusing idioms at him just yet.

Also read magazines and online newspapers.

@hahalolk

Once again, although reading magazines like TIME and The Wall Street Journal is a good way to learn the language, I still maintain that such level of writing would be too hard and therefore not relevant for the OP

start with easier books. watch a lot of TV in English

I encoraged to buy Direct Hits vol.1 and 2.And learn it all.So, I can gather 500 points, if I will know words, right? And reading paragraphs I will guess and make all questions C.WR I have already impoved to 500 in average result.Math currect score is 580-610.And I have 3 month to improve it to 700 in average. And I will make a lot of Model Tests in Official Guide and Course+ I will buy BARRON’S 2400.

^ Direct Hits includes only very difficult words (including many that highly intelligent native English speakers are not aware of). It will be of little assistance to someone who is not fluent in English.

what about BARRON’S? My friend prepared for SAT 9 month and got 2370 points. And enrolled to WPI.He used only BARRON’S SAT, that’s it.

I don’t really recommend using Barron’s or any similar prep books.

I happen to have a Barron’s SAT CR workbook. Would you not even recommend going through some of that simply to get some passages under my belt?
