Suggestions for Senior year schedule conflictions- Cockrell

Hey guys, so I'm a Senior at a 5A public high school in San Antonio, Texas. I'm working on my application to Cockrell for engineering, and I've done a lot of viewing on this site before when it comes to suggestions for applications. I know that it is heavily suggested to take advanced math and science courses your senior year, which is what I was doing anyway. I signed up for Calculus BC, Physics C, and Chemistry 2 AP. However, there's a problem...

I'm the President of our school's varsity choir program, and I just received a call, ONE WEEK from school, saying that BC conflicts with choir.

I don't know what to do. I'm scared that if I only take AB, my application will be affected tremendously. However, choir is one of my only, if not only, leadership positions I have in school, so I would hate to drop it. Plus I love music in general.

Which would benefit me more, taking BC, or taking AB and keeping my choir class and leadership position?

Just take AB. Most schools don’t even offer BC.

Woah I’m in the exact same situation. I’m putting math over choir because I want to do engineering but I’m just moving to a lower choir. Does your school have other choir periods

I know that for PetE, the higher level math course will definitely show my love of math and ability to challenge myself. But if what you say is true frever, then I guess AB wouldn’t be that bad.

ulovetoy: yeah, we do. I was in one last year as an extra class period. it wasn’t appealing at all, just a bunch of kids messing around. very unprofessional.

Take AB and get a 5, you will need only one semester of calculus. Take BC, you can take an easier Calculus at UT (Multi-variable).

Either way, you are likely to get into UT.

I say take choir. My son did band and choir, took AB (only course offered) and was accepted in ChemE (he did well on the ACT – with a 34)
