Suggestions for volunteer opportunities for pre-dental student

My D is entering her second year as a biology major with hopes of going on to dental school. She is looking for volunteer opportunities in the Oakland area (hopefully dental-related).

Any suggestions?

Not sure of any dental-specific ones. She might want to see if anyone in the dental school has a lab or is doing research that she could be involved in. Aside from that, the hospitals (especially Presby) love to have volunteers-- you even get paid. The hours may suck a bit (overnight once a week I think) but the experience looks REALLY good when applying to med school/dental school.

Look here for dental-related research opportunities (not that research has to be dental-related) or seek out volunteering opportunities in Pitt’s dental clinics (Salk Hall).

If you are volunteering, just email the faculty doing research and see if they have room in their lab for a lab volunteer. Some may, some may not. Eventually, it could turn into a paid position too.
