Suggestions - Redesigned SAT – from 5th March test takers

5th March test taker, can you please pass on suggestions for preparing Redesigned SAT future tests. Prep courses, books, materials, khan academy etc.

I would also like some advice about the redesigned SAT. If there’s anyone who took the March SAT or anyone who knows about any experiences related to this most recent exam date, please send me a private message. I would really appreciate any help…or anything more:)

If you took the new PSAT, then the reading and writing on the SAT is very similar to the ones on the PSAT. The math, in my opinion, was just a bit harder but still easily doable.

If anyone has taken BOTH the old SAT and the new one, please compare for us, in terms of difficulty.

Math - new SAT math is significantly easier than old SAT math. Most of it is just parroting what the question tells you. There is way too much verbiage in the new SAT math sections, however - old SAT is easier if you don’t like reading two to four different things to lead you to a simple answer.

Reading - questions for new SAT are more straightforward. Much more science on the new SAT. However, since there are many questions whose answers are based off the answers to previous questions, it is very easy to miss multiple questions. Old SAT had more complex verbiage.

Writing/editing - about the same. Same types of questions, similar types of passages. Grammar rules.

Essay - new essay is easier than the old one. New one has twice the time allotment, provided scratch paper, and a specific prompt that can be followed without prior knowledge - old one you have 25 minutes to dream up ideas and write a powerful essay with said ideas.

Math non-Calc is pure conceptual, if you know your math, you will do great. Math Calc is very easy but a decent amount very wordy problems. Writing is a lot better than the act, their rhetorical analysis is much more agreeable with. Same type of grammar questions though and some vocab. Reading is interpreting a hard passage and answering questions about it. The evidence questions helped the logic people so if you’re good at math, it makes it easier for ylu to do the reading section. Overall the sat is easier for the math people imo. Go to act if you’re better at reading.

Can anyone confirm what order the sections of the test were given? Since the essay is now optional is it now given last?

@curiositycat333

The order is in the same order as in the practice tests.
Reading, Writing, Math (no calculator), Math (Calculator), and Essay (optional)

The only advice I can really give is to brush up on your math skills, especially if you’re in higher levels of math right now. It’s all simple math (mainly algebra), but you never know what you might forget. Make sure you’re going at a good pace in math because you will run out of time otherwise and that’s where most people lose points. I know a lot of people who don’t finish and you do not want that to happen to you.
