Suites? - Housing Question

I know I want to do modern housing, but I also want a 4-person suite like those of Shepley. Do I choose double or triple on the housing form? (There is no 4-person option.)

Shepley is a sophomore dorm. You can’t get that your freshman year.

I don’t believe there are any triples in modern housing.

Actually, there are a few. I know that one of my friends in Dardick house (modern) has a triple, which is HUGE btw, and one of his roommates moved out because he was transferring. Thus, he shares a modern triple with one other person…so lucky. But don’t count on getting one of these rooms as they are exceedingly rare.

But at the same time, not too many people ask for triples. If you do get one, they will definitely be more spacious than a double, and you get to share a bathroom between 3 people instead of 4. In Dardick, there are sizes of triples, one that leaves you with probably a little more floorspace than the average double, and one that leaves you with an honestly massive amount of floorspace, enough to fit in, say, a kiddie pool/hot tub…

So are there rooms that are suites with 4 people, a bathroom and a common room for freshmen? If so how would I go about getting one?

You just list the room type in order of preference and hope for the best! My D’s freshman year she put all the modern choices as #s 1,2,and 3 and all the traditional choices as #s 4,5, and 6. She got her 6th choice - a traditional triple. She called Res Life the summer before starting classes, was on a wait list, and they did finally change her placement to a modern 4 person suite (2 double rooms that share a bathroom).

pkm-no there are not. Freshman suites do not have individual common rooms for each suite.

Okay thanks!

pkm, if you want a modern dorm, here are your options:

Four-person suite (two doubles connected by a bathroom)
Triple (suite containing a triple room and a bathroom)
6=person suite (three doubles connected by a hallway, containing two bathrooms – only available in Park House)

In all likelihood, you’ll get the first option.

Also, if you apply for a modern single, you’ll have a suite of four singles connected by a hallway with two bathrooms (only in Eliot).

For this current year, since there were more freshman than expected, they ended up using a traditional sophomore dorm to house freshman. That building (Rutledge, I believe?) has suites of 6 (two singles and two doubles) that share a bathroom and a common room. For understandable reasons, that building is entirely sub-free.

Since the university plans on enrolling a smaller freshman class next year, my guess is that they will not be using that building again for freshman.

You’re right. My friend in Rutledge says that they still can choose to live in Rutledge next year, which means it turns back into a sophomore dorm again
