SUMaC 2012

Has anyone gotten off the waitlist?

I assume final decisions will be out soon since everyone should have decided whether or not they’re going by now, but I don’t know.

And upon searching on facebook, apparently there’s already a group. So disregard what I said earlier. <_< You can find the group by searching for it on facebook; I can link you to it too.

Will we even get an email if we don’t make it from waitlist?

^I sent an email to them asking when they’d be through with the waitlist which, assuming that they really don’t order their waitlist as they claim, should be the earliest time that we can know if we are rejected.

I’ll post an update with whatever they send back. I hope they don’t get mad at me for being so impatient lol.

They replied that they don’t know when they’ll stop admitting people from the wait list. Supposedly they accept people as late as a few days before the start of the program.

that is a little screwed up haha, but not in the position to argue or complain

I was waitlisted but was accepted about a week ago.

Hi,
What are my chances in getting in SUMaC?
I am currently in 10 th grade. In 9th I gave AP Calc BC and got a 5. I have also given SAT Math Level 1&2 and got 800 in both.
In school I have straight A’s. I had also done EPGY (at stanford) this summer and my course was Number Theory.
But my school counselor said that it is difficult for me to get into SUMaC as the other applicants have a pretty good application. I am not sure whether I should apply.
Please help!
Thanks a lot!

Sorry, rwhg123, but I doubt you’re going to be able to get much good advice here, as I’m pretty sure no one here knows much about the admissions process.

All I’d say is that if you’ve already done an EPGY course, then IF the admissions staff get access to a recommendation or evaluation from that instructor (and I don’t know if they do), it may carry quite a bit of weight and render moot a lot of the advice you’d get otherwise.

I did get the evaluation letter. I can send it to them with the application.

You should also make sure to apply to some other math programs. I applied to SUMaC a couple summers ago and didn’t get in even though I thought I aced the application test. As Sly Si said, not much is known to students about the admissions process.

Thanks for your advice. I will also apply to some other Math camps. Do you know any reputed ones?
