How hard is it to get in? Can people who have gone before post their stats? as in school grades/ math classes taken before applying, standardized test scores, AMC/AIME.... and does anyone know how that is weighted against the entrance test?

Is it really that hard to get in? (I know 1/3 of the people are accepted... but are the applicants already self-selective?)

I think if you do a search for SUMaC, you may find some of the information you're looking for.

My D attended SUMaC the summer after 11th grade. By that time she had completed AB calculus and had a math SAT I score of 790 and SAT II score of 800. I know she qualified for AIME, but I don't recall her exact AMC score that year. They do expect you to put a lot of effort into the application, including the entrance exam, although you can get in without getting all of the problems right.

Is it really hard to get in? That's hard to answer. It probably depends on the pool that year, although you're right that it's a self selecting pool. After all, the pool only contains students who've taken the time to complete the entrance exam. You do need to be very good at math to get in, and you have to put a lot of effort into the application. I suspect they look at the recommendations to see if you have the motivation to do heavy duty math for four weeks and to see if you have the maturity to handle a program like that.

For what it's worth, my D found it a wonderful experience and recommends it to anyone who's looking for a summer math program. Do search for SUMaC though, because you will get a lot more detail about the experience than I've been able to give you here.

Does anybody know when you find out whether you were accepted or not because I applied before the deadline and they sent an email saying they had recieved all materials and so now I am just waiting until thier response.
