Any advice on a a good option for a summer class --either online or live --to get a good basis for algebra 2? This would be for a high school graduate.
Probably the local community college would be a good bet for a live class. Online, there’s Khan Academy, of course, but it sounds like you are looking for a formal class. Again, there are community colleges that offer online classes.
AoPS could work, I always hear such nice things about that program. ALEKS could be another choice, I used it over the summer for Geometry a couple years ago. I also used ALEKS for Algebra 2 in class. It’s an online program where you do separate topics at your own pace—a pretty decent program, but a little harder to retain information compared to an actual class. And, as twinsmama said, community college courses are always a good way to go.
Weigh the options of cc vs a tutor. Many inexpensive college kids trying to make money and make great tutors. There are sites for this also. Make them a deal for like 10 sessions at a certain bargain price that’s a win /win. This way they can hone down on certain issues and I feel it’s more bang for your buck also.
Check the offerings at Phillips Academy at Andover as well as those offered by Exeter. Not sure, but since both schools accept PGs (post high school graduates), I suspect that your student would be eligible if a recent high school graduate.
Also, if the student has been accepted to a college or university, then it may be wise to check out that school’s summer offerings.
