Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) & AP/EA @ Carnegie-Mellon?

still no letter:-(

so is there really no ac in the dorms?

Ooh, I conveniently forgot that I got my rejection letter last week. :P I live in Texas, so...

oooh! maybe i will be accepted midway through the program from the waitlist if there are any heat-related casualties..

actually, i just found out today that if i don't make it into the program, my alternative is to get my wisdom teeth pulled! come on CMU, save me from such a horrid fate...

I guess there's no ac because they tell you to bring a fan

Eww... maybe I don't want to get accepted. If it gets as hot in the summers as it does in Philly then i am dead.... no i still want to get accepted

nope...there's no AC, and you can't bring one to the dorm room. From what I've heard, it gets extremely hot in the dorm rooms during the summer. BUT IT'S STILL GOING TO BE AWESOME!!!

im pretty much used to the heat though (im from the south). but how hot does it REALLY get? and is it humid or is it like dry heat?

Depends, generally it's dry. You really don't want to stay in the dorms, they're aren't that great. You get a free bus pass so you can explore the city.

it is EXTREMELY hot in the rooms and i mean it. my roommate bought 4 fans to constantly recirculate the air from the room--one on each window, one at the door, and one right next to his pillow.
so when the heat's intolerable, get a few friends and claim a spot in the AC lounge in Morewood (non-E, that is) 2nd floor.

so i think this is ridiculous ... i haven't received my letter yet

^^me too at least i am not the only one

You guys are still waiting for Decision letters? Did you atleast call and find out your status?

The due date for the response (wether you're attending or not) has passed (May 14). That's pretty odd that you are still waiting.

^^ i called twice i know im on the waitlist but i still didnt get the letter

ohhhhh....

maybe they didn't send out rejection/waitlist letters; but idk.

it's HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT in pittsburgh. might as well melt and be done with it. (now, if only i could find an appropriate time to melt... before finals, perhaps?)

tong -- HAHAH, four fans?! (HI, MY NAME IS KATHY. NICE TO MEET YOU.) well, i did bring a small fridge last year -- sticking my head in occasionally was quite effective.

I can't imagine it being much worse than the consistent 105-110 degree weather i usually have during the summer

sorry for the double post, but i just called in to find out if my status on the waitlist has changed, and in the process i came to the conclusion that the admission's office secretaries are robots. yes, robots. here was my conversation...

me: Hi, i applied to the CMU diversity program and was waitlisted. Do you know when I can find out if i was accepted from the waitlist?
her: Sorry, we're not dealing with the waitlist until Thursday May 22nd
(At this point I informed her that today was indeed Thursday May 22nd and again asked her if my status on the waitlist had changed, or if not when might the decision be made)
She responded: You can try again sometime after Thursday May 22nd
(and that is where i said thank you and ended the conversation)

never once did she give any reason for me to believe that she knew today was Thursday May 22nd. Not only are the secretaries robots, they are poorly programmed robots. A simple if statement could have compared the current date with Thursday May 22nd and changed the output to "today" or informed me that i can try again "tomorrow" or "next week". Oh well, perhaps the CS freshman next fall can debug them before i send in my college application =)

LMAO :) That's a great story :P
Maybe try calling again and pressing 0 while talking to the secretaries? I doubt that'll change anything but... lol just in case they are actually robots and they have someone behind it.

I called in today and I was rejected from the waitlist. oh well, there is absolutely nothing more i could have done. have a nice summer you guys
