Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) & AP/EA @ Carnegie-Mellon?

Are the essay double or single spaced and how long is a typical activities resum

edit can someone tell me the general format for the essays

I'm not very good at math and science. I LOVE writing and humanities, thus only signed up for the AP/EA. Is there a way to go back and sign up for the SAMS program? Should I sign up for it at all? I get pretty crappy grades in those subjects.

Send them an email. They can adjust your preference before final acceptance/rejection.

It seems to me that the AP/EA program gives more flexibility. I really don't want to take pre-calculus and SAT prep if I'm in SAMS. Those seem to be mandatory classes. <a href="http://www.cmu.edu/enrollment/summerprogramsfordiversity/sams-sr-sched.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.cmu.edu/enrollment/summerprogramsfordiversity/sams-sr-sched.html</a></p>

I just started and finished my essays today. What a load off my back!

I single spaced my essays. For diversity I wrote a very "show" essay about my personality (Romantic- imagination, emotion, individualism, nature and that stuff). For AP/EA, I wrote about ISEF. I had to choose between that and debate. Science won... it was amazing!

Wow, this is my absolute first choice program and now my guidance counselor is telling me that she can't write a recommendation for another 2 weeks! Should I just send in what I have (everything except the rec) and send her rec. as soon as I get it? For those who have been in this situation before, what would you recommend?

Send everything you have in and give your counselor a separate stamped envelope and tell him/her to send the rec in as soon as it is done. Make sure your name is clearly marked on the rec. You will get a reminder later if they don't have all the stuff they need. Meanwhile keep bugging your counselor until he/she send the rec in. Send them email to warn them about your counselor tardiness also would not hurt.

Can I just put everything in one big envelope without the smaller ones and send it all out?

^^^Leave all of the LORs and transcripts in their small envelopes (this assures that they're "official") and put them along with your resume, test scores and essays in a large envelope.

Alright, just sent out all of my application stuff, and teachers are getting finished up w/ recs. Anyone care to chance me? Thanks!

SAT: 2040 , Math 710 CR 660 Writing 670, Essay 8

Counselor Rec: not expecting to be that great, I don't really know her that well
Teacher Recs: both recs should be good

I'm only applying to SAMS. Thanks!

at Rissa543: i sent in one of my recommendations separately because my teacher didnt finish on time. So...I just put a note mentioning that to the admissions office and hopefully they will understand.

Does anyone know if the CMU people are very nitpicky about sending things in separately? My school is required to send my transcript individually, while one of my recommendations, as Ive mentioned, was not finished on time.

Wait I have another question. Does anyone know or has anyone asked them how they evaluate our applications? Is it mainly the trasncript or the essay or the extracirriculars...
Thanks.

umm i'm applying to AP/EA with like 3.6 gpa and 1790 sat.... i totally bombed the sat... it was my first though... overall, my app sux. i have great ECs though and apparenty my recommendations are good cuz one of my teacher was like i'm positive you will get accepted but she doesn't know my sat score or my overall gpa....
i'm taking full IB btw...

no chance right? can anyone help me out cuz then i have to think of a backup plan.

I emailed them about the separate application materials and they said it is fine if they are separate. Just make sure your name is on it.

How many here are applying for the AP/EA (not free one)??
I sent my application in early January so I should be finding out next week or so (I called them about when I would find out).

Woot! Finally finished with the application. I'm really glad that our guidance counselors have a "Autobiographical sketch" questionnaire to aid their writing.

I'm really bad with recommendation letters. I try so hard not to look through the white envelopes to read what's inside. Hm, I'm sure they are fantastic.

one question-- Is there a form that I need to fill out in addition to the online application? It seems that no document of identification (i.e. name, address) needs to be mailed. Do I need to print out the online application?

^^^Your name and other information are on your transcript and score reports that you're mailing, your LORs should also have your name on them, and you should always put your name on your essays and resume.

WAIT, the site says it has to be postmarked by March 1. But March 1st is a Sunday, when USPS is closed. Does that mean I have to send in my application by today (Saturday)?

I saw a deadline of april 1st - what do you mean march 1st deadline?

Apply to Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Diversity

Ah... so I was concerned with the AP/EA deadline.
