a bit of a delayed reply, but i agree with ari. i had an A in world history but a C in biology.

did anyone else get a response for their early action application? i got mine this past friday and was quite surprised with their news, considering my C in bio (...and my failure to have an interview, plus a rushed application that i pulled an all-nighter for to get in by the deadline).

hello everyone
i was planning to apply to the 2009 SAMS/AP/EA program
i have been reading some of the previous posts and i have a few questions
my gpa is 3.9
psat: 201 (cr:66, math: 71, writing: 64)
sat: 2040 (cr: 660, math: 710, writing: 670)
i am an indian male
my essays are good

what are my chances of making?

which should i choose as my first choice? SAMS? or AP/EA?

lol, @ RH...that was a troll thread of mine when I was young and stupid (had just joined CC)...I'm a senior this year and I am applying to Harvard (i've been accepted to Yale SCEA)...so who knows...my trolling may become reality.

@ KK91A:

you stats are perfectly fine and can most likely get you in; the essays are the most important part so make sure they're fantastic.

I'd put AP/EA as your first choice and SAMS as your second. While I did ap/ea myself, I've heard that the SAMS course were watered down.

the diversity program is the free one; consequently, it is very selective. The one that cost money is much easier to get into. Although there are separate applications, there is absolute no difference (and no separation) during the actual program. It's just a matter of paying and going for free.

The diversity program has about 50-65 open spots (each program)...at least last year they did...
You have a MUCH greater chance of getting into the AP/EA program than the SAMS program based on your credentials.
Also(insider's tip), last year, when I was talking to my friend who helps with the application process for the AP/EA program, he told me that the people who only apply for the AP/EA program and have at least a 3.8 GPA will almost definitely get in. The people who apply for both programs, and don't get into the SAMS program if they marked that program as #1, will not get in to the AP/EA program.
If I were you, and my main interest was in getting prepared for college while having fun, I would apply for only the AP/EA program.
However, if I wasn't confident...like if I had a bad GPA or Transcript...I would apply to both, but still put the AP/EA program first.
Also, like many members have said previously, the essays DO weigh in a lot in the final process of picking who will get into the program...and that applies to both SAMS and AP/EA.
...and for the essays...mainly BE YOURSELF, they don't like uniform...they like DIVERSITY...and also use a wide syntactic variety; don't use all simple or compound sentences, mix it up!
Hope this helped!
also, what state are you applying from?

hi all. i'm planning to apply to cmu's AP/EA diversity for 2009.
mind chancing me?

my stats:
class of 2010

SAT: 2100 (750 math 700 crit 650 writing)
PSAT: 205 (72 math 68 crit 65 writing)
IB Diploma Candidate
-active in tennis, hold 4 leadership positions, volunteer quite a bit
-filipino living in japan, international student (i'll try to play this up in my essay)

oh and another question. i wont be 16 yet but will have completed my junior year of high school by the summer of 2009. can I still avail of a housing plan? the website says the minimum age is 16. are they strict about this?

Hey everyone!
I'm a bit confused about this and was hoping someone could clear it up for me.
Sophomores are allowed to apply to SAMS, but NOT to the diversity AP/EA, right? They are, however, allowed to apply to the regular AP/EA?
If what I said is correct, then do you think I, as a current sophomore/rising junior, should I apply to SAMS and/or the regular AP/EA?
Also, do the letters of recommendation play a HUGE part in the decision process? My problem is that I need a letter from my counselor, and at my school, our counselors don't exactly know us that well...
Thank you to anyone who replies! (:

okay there's a lot people asking about there chances with stellar ec's, so what would be my chances if i have a horrible gpa (mostly B's and some A's) not great SAT's(1950) and decent ec's(multiple officer positions in debate, several awards and honors in model un, community stuff and a bit more.) let me know.

Hi everybody, I'm planning to apply SAMS this year. I'm an international student and this is my first year in US. My PSAT is just 178, pretty low. Do you think I have a chance to get in? Thanks!

I want to apply to their program, but the deadline is March first!!

Does that mean they need to receive everything (including online app and mailed in transcript, teacher ecs., etc.) by that date or just the online app.? Do you think ill make the deadline if I mail everything it?

ACT: 30
w gpa: 4.2
uw gpa: 3.75
