Didn't they take a really long time to send out replies last year? I remember when i first heard about the program, I went through the entire thread (no life, lol) and people were still waiting in MAY for responses. If they are sending them out quicker this year then yay! No mind numbing waiting period for us!

i want to know to why brownboy will find out so early. on the website it says they will send out decisions in may and on the form i got in the mail it says they will accept applications after march 1st....

I looked through last years thread too but they turned in their applications close to the deadlines. They all sent theirs in around April and found out May/June. I turned mine in mid-January so I m assuming they will get to mine first which is why I will find out so soon. Last year it took them around one to two months so two months from January sounds about right.

Brownboy, did you apply to the precollege program that's not free? That program has an earlier acceptance notification, in march, as opposed to the diversity program, which has notification in may. I think that may be why everyone is so confused.

that's probably it.

I hope they don't take as long to process the applications this year.

what did you guys write about in your essays? (I suppose it's safe to share this now that it's all over :D)

lol do u guys think I should have a backup plan?
its kinda awkward to tell my teachers to write one more rec for me.... they r gonna think that im mad annoying == what should i do???

for the essay, I just wrote about my exp as a teacher assistant of the ESL department and the Chinese program, as a former ESL student XD

I have three other backup plans.... But I feel like I should get one or two more? I don't want to get rejected from all of them. I feel weird asking for more recs though.

Is this program everyone's first choice?? I like the idea of getting a taste of college but what else would we gain from it?

Oh, about my essays. For the diversity one, I told a story and related it to one of my character traits-- being a Romantic (not just lovey-dovey). For AP/EA, I wrote about ISEF-- tying it back to an instance when I was young, and to my future goals. It was kind of abstract.

Yeah I applied to the non diversity one but that was only because i didn't find out about the diversity one until after I applied for non diversity. I thought decisions were around the same time despite the different deadlines but I guess not. Did everyone here apply for the diversity one???

i dont have any backups so hopefully i get in.
how many people here actually want to go to cmu as an undergrad?

that was one of the main reason i apllied to ap ea.

hi everyone I'm new and i have a question... I sent in my application online and postmarked evrything else on the 28th but they sent me a post card for "pre college programs" i clearly put SAMS on my application... what should I do!

just wondering.. I got the booklet for cmu feb 21 ... which was not enough time to send in all my materials!.. but i did get them all done for SAMS.. when did you get yours and what are you applying for?

yeah they sent me a precollege postcard saying that they didnt get my forms and stuff yet. I emailed their admissions office and they said the entire program, including the SAMS, the not-free precollege, and other diveristy programs are under the precollege admissions office. they just use the smae postcard. dont worry :]

I'm not expecting this to affect many of us, but they extended deadlines until March 31st

arrgggg that's a loooong time
that means i should probably apply to some other summer programs too, since I will have no other choices if I get rejected,

So AP/EA is more selective/prestigious than SAMS?

that actually could affect us. I emailed the admissions people how many people they accept, and they said around ten percent, 100 people for every thousand. so...if more people apply, well, more competition, right?

But more people also means more acceptances, if we follow the 10% acceptance rate you claim. Anyway, if you assume that the rest of the applicants will have about the same credentials and qualifications as the ones that have already applied, it doesnt really matter.

BUT, perhaps we can also assume that they are procrastinators and will actually have slightly LOWER credentials than the ones that have already applied, giving us the advantage. But, again, thats probably just stupid logic.. haha

urrrG! lol.. but if i dont get in.. i guess im going to try getting into YSP at UMD.. or this other summer program at Carleton College
