Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) & AP/EA @ Carnegie-Mellon?

keep the thread alive don't let it die...

i cant figure out why the turnover before they tell us admissions decisions is so long.. does it really take 2 months to admit 100 people? Thats like 2 admits per day...

maybe they just wait so long for dramatic effect or something. whatever the reason, it sucks.

I think not so many applied this year, and they are still allowing ppl to submit their apps...

blasphemy!!!!

and i was so worried that turning mine in the day before was a bad thing...

^ amen to that...

Did anyone get confirmation that their application has been received? I haven't and I'm thinking I should call.

i have not received any confirmation either

Maybe they don't send anything. I just thought they might because many other programs do.

I called today and they said they received it. So call them! They are not very keen on emails, haha.

i will try and call tomorrow. so i sorta really want to get into this program. it sounds really fun, and i have never been outside of texas, other than to mexico, so i really want to go.

i didn't get my confirmation either.

However, if I recall, they said they would tell you when they recieve it.

i dont htink they send out any confirmation at all, though if you call in, they'd be glad to tell you that they got everything.

Last year they sent out confirmation postcards, though I didn't get mine until after I received my acceptance letter...

^ lol, how convenient...

So, sdo they accept 50% sophomores and 50% juniors? They can't obviously take a junior over a sophomore, that's not fair.

are you referring to SAMS? I would imagine that's how they do it(not sure). I would prefer that they took more juniors than sophmores though...I'm a junior, obviously :)

yes, I was referring to SAMS, obviously. From what I think, I would say SAMS would go for a bit more sophomores and less juniors. The competetive juniors who apply would be taken in for AP/EA.

There aren't many good summer programs out there for Sophomores. Many like RSI and SSP are junior biased. That sucks. I hope SAMS isn't like that.

i'm a junior (rising senior) who applied only for AP/EA. Many aspects of SAMS appeared too easy to me or kinda pointless (why take SAT prep classes when i'm already happy with my SAT score?). Does any1 know how many slots are available for AP/EA? Also, do applications that were submitted on time have a better chance than the ones that come in a few weeks late? Logically i would think yes, but from the CMU website it seems that they have probably the softest deadline policy ever..
