Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) & AP/EA @ Carnegie-Mellon?

No it’s letters but I live in the Pittsburgh post office region so they probably sent them out Thursday or Friday. You can call admissions but they might be closed today

Hm… still didn’t receive any letters lol. I guess if I got in the letter will arrive by tomorrow.

Awe I guess I cant meet u guys at CMU I called the office, and they told me I didnt make it…

Wait listed. Anyone know how many wait-listers usually end up being admitted, or how to find out the number of applicants wait listed?

My DD got denied. Letter said they had budge cuts so they had to reduce the number of people admitted. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to the others.

Fortunately my DD was accepted back in March to the LEAD program in computer science at Caltech for the summer.

ACCEPTED! I’m freaking out. So happy right now! I won’t get to chill with my friends or do drivers ed, but oh well! :DDD

Accepted to SAMS:))) Can anyone give an overview of the whole experience?

I second what nikke is asking. I would like to know what someone thought of the program and if they had any advice. (SAMS) please and thanks!

I third it! Lol I can’t wait to get the handbook!!

Wait listed, I thought I would get in. What are the chances of being accepted?

Well I went last year as a rising junior and I’m definitely coming back this year! Honestly, the experience was the best 6 weeks of my life, and even when you thought that you would want to come running home after being away for so long, I never wanted to leave. The returners are setting up a facebook group soon (SAMS 2012) that will hopefully be the place for further questions & discussion.

Got my packet today:)

I went last year as a rising Senior to SAMS, and let me tell you, it was a truly amazing experience. If you place into Differential Calc, you will be with the amazing Dr. Flaherty, and the class does count for college credit. The engineering projects, though not for grades, give you an idea of the fields that they represent, teach you a lot, and they can be a lot of fun.

All of the staff is very nice-they make you feel at home, and they really encourage the idea of a “SAMS Family.” The english course, which is also not for a credit grade, does help quite a bit in writing your college application essays (as you get feedback from your peers and from an english PhD student). One of the essays I wrote there was one of the essays I used for my own college applications. The admissions team also has many seminars that help you through the college application process, with the admissions officers answering all questions and telling you what they look for at CMU and other top universities.

So, all in all, I feel that it is an amazing experience that everyone should try to take full advantage of. You get the experience of a real college calculus course, great programs, and great people in general. Everyone has a story to tell, so make friends and take advantage of the diversity. Many SAMS graduates end up going to some of the best schools in the country, and they are among the brightest high school students I’ve met.

Those of you wait listed-our S had to decline to attend another program. (He would have loved to attend Carnegie Mellon this summer!) We are keeping our fingers crossed for you!

@critter thank you!! i have hope now

Bump because I want to know the answer to ^ question. Also, for those going to SAMS, are their bathrooms that go with the rooms? It might sound silly but the book never said if there was or not.

Le bump (again)

@Dan2014: Were you accepted to this program?

Yes I was.

Awesome! How competitive is it? I will probably apply next year.
