Any recommendations for a good summer art program for my daughter, who is interested in painting and perhaps graphic design? She has been a ballet dancer her entire life, and now wants to pursue other art forms. She’s always been very good at painting. I notice RISD has a 6 week program, but am curious if there are other programs that would be a good fit?
We live on the west coast, but are used to paying travel fees to ballet summer intensives on the east coast (typically ballet SI’s run about $8K with room and board, travel to/from). Thanks so much!
My daughter will be a rising junior. We are trying to decide from the following pre-college summer programs.
MECA (Maine)
MICA (Baltimore)
SAIC (Chicago)
Pratt (Brooklyn)
MassArt
In California, CSSS, Otis, LCAD, UCLA have good reputations.
Thank you, Boston01!
We are heading to UCLA/OTIS during Spring vacation, so I’ll ask about their summer programs.
Curious…where did your daughter go for summer this summer? Two years ago, we did Hope Railey’s class in Figure Drawing in the summer at Laguna College of Art and Design. A friend attended the Open House at the end: she said that she did not get that level of instruction until she was a grad student. HIGHLY recommend. I will say that I was not impressed with the level of art produced by some of the other classes, but Hope is INCREDIBLE. DD is seriously considering repeating the class as a college student (wherever she goes during the school year)as we live nearby. This summer she did the figure sculpture class with Matthew Segota at Art Center of Design in Pasadena. it was absolutely excellent as well. Neither program has housing.
Unfortunately, my daughter wasn’t able to attend a summer art program this summer. However, I’ve heard great things about the classes at Laguna College of Art and Design!
