I really wanted to apply for an internship but for some reason I never could find one for Biology. I took AP Bio as a sophomore and got a 5 and a 790 so I should have the credentials. I asked the administration but they didn't do much to help.

Is there any that I can still apply for? I can probably get a teacher rec quick.

Or should I take a summer course at a college like Berkeley?

Or should I just take a few college courses at a community college to raise my GPA? It used to be great, but 1st semester Junior year screwed it up big time. I need to boost my app.

Thanks!

Most of the deadlines for summer programs have already past. Have you thought about contacting professors at UCBerkeley (if you live nearby) to see if they would allow you to intern in their labs? Last summer I worked at a lab at UWashington (volunteer, not for pay). Contact professors you would be interested in working with. If they ask you for an interview, bring any laboratory reports you have completed. It will be different than a research notebook but it may give them an idea of your experience with universal lab techniques. If they can define a specific project for you to complete, you can finish the project over the summer. Then you can write up an abstract to send to colleges and may even be able to compete in science competitions such as Siemens and Intel during your senior year. You might also want to consider Young Epidemiology Scholars competition. A note of advice: if you want to compete for scholarships, begin with the end in mind. Decide what you are applying for before you start the project so that your project will be tailored to the specific requirements of the competitions. Good luck!

Woah, lab reports? I never got that professional. I would have done them but unfortunately I don’t have the money or resources to. And a 5 on the AP test alone probably isn’t enough to convince Cal professors to allow me to intern. Are there any other options?

Thanks for the help, by the way.
