Summer B Dorm Selection

Is it true that one’s Summer B dorm selection limits the dorm selection for Fall? My son was told that he would have to stay this Fall in the dorm he selected for Summer B. This has not been the policy in years past, but things can change.

So yes, but if you pay like an extra $125 you can do contracts and switch dorms between summer and fall. Many of my friends did this but i stayed in my dorm bc of convenience. a lot of people want to switch to broward in the fall.

You guessed his motivation!

How does that work, moving dorms? I’d think only on a space available basis and summer kids get what’s left over after Fall students have made selection. I have a feeling housing isn’t actively publising switching as an option. They do have in bold in intial housing letter.

“If you do not want to live in the residence halls for all three terms (Summer B, Fall and Spring) please email contactus@housing.ufl.edu before completing your housing agreement and prior to the agreement due date to discuss your options.”

But when we asked about discussing options, the reply was "If you were admitted for the Summer term, you must live in the same residence hall with the same roommates for all three terms (Summer B/Fall/Spring). We will not be able to split any contracts this year. "

So, since it’s odd to mention options in the email and then seemingly say there are no options… possibly it’s for kids not needing to be ON campus all 3 terms?

I think it’s contracted for separately. I also don’t think it impacts the choice of dorm for the fall (ie getting “leftovers.”) I’d want to talk to someone in housing to be sure. Call them or email them specifically about this issue.

@OldLady21 If the letter explicitly states “we will not split contracts this year” then there is a good chance they stopped doing it after my year. It honestly probably caused them a lot of hassle. If your kid really wants to live in broward in fall, he can always sublease for the summer in windsor or something, but i havent lived in broward, rawlings or any of the “social” dorms and i am still having fun and meeting a lot of people. Especially doing summer your kid will meet so many more people. also, i have friends in broward and only some floors are social, not all. overall, i wouldnt worry about housing that much because it really doesnt matter much.

If your kid isn’t very social like mine then your good to go!
