So i planned ahead and applied for (and got) and very nice internship. Unfortunately, it was not until mid june that i realized that said internship was only two days a week. After a little bit of fruitless job searching i quit and said "two days a week in enough." Its a good internship but how much will doing nothing 'productive' for five days a week all summer affect the App?

5 days of inactivity looks better than 7 days of inactivity.

'better than nothing.' but will it hurt me?

anyone have anything else to say on the topic of not doing somthing 5-days a week the summer before your senior year?

Don't worry about it. Even if doing nothing else were to hurt you (I really don't think it will), there isn't much time to do anything else. Enjoy yourself before school starts again.

Spend the 5 days a week on something else productive, like volunteering.

or have fun.

I don't think Colleges expect you to do as much volunteering and internships during Senior year. They'd probably think you have enough to worry about, like college apps, summer homework, and rest for the following year.

I believe there was a similar thread where someone gave the advice to do something enriching that you could mention when asked what you did during the summer such as taking up a volunteering project, self-studying a subject of interest, taking an online class, etc...

Don't worry about it too much. What else are you doing with your time? As long as you are not glued to soap operas, you are probably doing things that express your interests and personality.

My daughters have never had summer classes, internships, etc. I suppose the closest thing was volunteering at a riding stable day camp. Otherwise they spend the summer visiting relatives, taking long bike rides, horseback riding, reading tons of books and swimming at the cabin. My older one wrote this up in the application and was accepted to 8 top LACs.

Don't join the rat race until you have to.

Why not sleep?

You sound as though you are planning your summers because adcoms care about what people do on their breaks and not because these things interest you.

not soap operas. scrubs and law and order ; )

but im reading, running and doing other things too
