Hey, I was wondering what I should do to make my summer really productive during the summer before my senior year. I'm shooting for Ivy League schools.

I'm already interning at a lab in UCI and working at a local yogurt place for experience.

I have an opportunity to tutor at the Sylvan Learning Center as a volunteer, but I don't know if I need it because I already have 200+ hours from recycling at my school and doing activities through Key Club, NHS, and CSF.

dont tutor if your heart's not in it. but already having hundreds of hours is NOT a good reason not to tutor.

do something because you love it, not because it'll get you into a college. believe me, colleges have gotten really good at sorting out the passionate applicant from the mechanical applicant.

I would NEVER volunteer at a tutoring place that charges tons of money. Let them pay you, or volunteer through an organization that really needs the help tutoring those less fortunate.

Thanks SO much for your input. I didn't even think of the profit-nonprofit thing. I'm looking into doing service through my city Student Council instead, or helping teens through a teen hotline because I like to talk. Thanks again!

earthlover:the fact that you have a job is great! Colleges looks for students that can manage life, work, and academics and succeed at the same time!!

If you are taking AP/honors classes that you believe will give you a tough time, maybe take a self-paced "summer course" to get you ready for that specific class.

Start working on college apps and essays. Start thinking about teachers that will recommend you.

Finally, maybe prepare for the SAT I, SAT II, and/or ACT over the summer.

That is what I would/am doing over the summer.
