So I have been accepted through the Summer Bridge Program. To my knowledge CARE students stay at Landis Hall during the Summer, is that correct?

I filled out my Summer Housing Application Feb 10th and I just got an email saying that I selected a hall that isn't available for the Summer session. I am fairly certain that I put Landis Hall on my application.

Our records indicate that you have selected one of our halls that will not be open for the Summer sessions in your hall preferences. The halls that are available for Incoming Freshmen for the Summer C term are: Cawthon, DeGraff, Gilchrist, Jennie Murphree and Reynolds. Transfer students and current off-campus students will be placed in Ragans Hall for the summer terms.

Did they make a mistake? Should I call up Monday and ask about this? or resend another CARE housing app?

CARE is the only group in Landis over the summer, and the regualr housing application does not link to the CARE students, but the PROGRAM WILL PLACE YOU IN LANDIS. I would not get too worried. You can call the CARE office, but they will get you in LANDIS no matter what your summer housing app says.

This letter went out in error last week to all students including CARE. According to what I was told on Monday by the FSU housing department they are working on put together an email specifically for CARE students to inform them this was a mistake. The delay in sending out the email is because they are having difficulty identifying all the CARE students. You will definitely be in the Landis for summer session if you are a CARE student. :)

Summer financial aid came out yesterday- today the financial aid toolkit is down for “processing”. FSU did this same thing when they assigned fall/spring financial aid and actually told me beforehand that they do this to keep from getting an influx of phone calls all at one time. For anyone reading this now or in the future let me warn you of something…

My daughter will be starting at FSU in June 2011 as a freshman in the CARE program. Her fall and spring financial aid packages were great! Her summer one was so ridiculously small that I felt like her college career was going up in flames ($300 PELL grant, $2500 in loans). I panicked and called financial aid and the CARE office this morning. This is what they told me.

If you are a CARE student and you qualify for even $1 of PELL grant assistance then FSU gives you a special grant that covers 100% of your summer costs (tuition, books, meal plan, incidentals, etc.). Mr Nyahuma, the CARE financial aid officer, has not been able to see before now who would be PELL eligible and therefore your summer financial aid package is not complete if you are in the CARE program and PELL eligible. He went so far as to say if you are offered loans and you even accept them, FSU will on your behalf decline the loans and issue you a special grant. Again this is only the case for CARE students who are PELL eligible.

I am only sharing this for informational purposes so that no one else is up nights worrying about how they are going to pay for their CARE Summer Bridge Program.
