summer camp counselor??

what are my chances with and what are the perspectives of college admissions officers on summer camp counselors? I have gone to the same summer camp for years as a kid/teen. it influenced me so much i went back and became a counselor there. i was thinking i’m coming from a more unique point of view bc i’m not in a lab, office, etc. i mean, most college applicants have never led a group of 6th graders on 2 day wilderness trips in the middle of the forest before.

i’m applying to some tougher admission schools (tufts, uchicago, princeton). i’m top 2% of my class of 1400 students and my cumulative gpa is 4.55. what is your take?

in terms of working with kids, i also lead a small group of 6th grade girls in my youth group and i teach violin private lessons to middle schoolers

Significant leadership positions will boost your chances at selective colleges. Lead summer camp counselors, with responsibilities for a group adolescents are considered such positions. You may want to emphasize your perspective on counseling, why its important, why you enjoy it, etc. in one of your essays.

I think you will be surprised what your application peers will have achieved. Do it because you love it, you are good at it, etc, but also know you it won’t be unique or superior.
