so im going to be a freshman next year at ucsd
and i was planning on taking some summer courses at a community college to fulfill GE requirements

buuuut how do i know if they will accept the class i take?
for example, if i take a UC approved calculus class, does that fulfill the GE requirement for math? will they accept that?

Dang it, I took Nutrition @ CC during fall semester because it’s UC-transferable and I thought it would give me some sort of GE credits. Guess I was wrong. -__- What a waste of money~

I was thinking of going to CC over the summer for class credits too.

If certain class credits are able to be transferred according to assist.org, can you just take those classes over the summer and give UCSD a copy of the transcript when you start as a freshman? Or do you have to check with UCSD first? I recall reading somewhere on the UCSD website under a certain department that you had to check in with that department first before taking courses at CC for credit. Am I mistaken? Or is it that only GE’s can be taken at CC and courses that goes toward your major cannot be?

for GEs, i’m pretty sure if it says it’s transferable on assist.org, you should be fine. when you’re done with the class, send ucsd your transcript and it should appear on your degree audit.
however, for your major courses, i’d check with the dept to make sure. usually they just require that a large percentage of your upper division classes be taken at UCSD, but lower divs might be different. if you take those classes at a CC, it won’t be part of your UC gpa, so wouldn’t you want to take them at UCSD because they’re the easy lower divs that can give your GPA some cushion before you take the upper divs?
