Summer Classes

If we are taking summer classes at a community college, do our grades transfer into the college? If not, is the minimum requirement to earn credit at least a C? Thanks!

Grades do not transfer. This remains true even as a W&M student unless the classes are taken as part of a W&M program (say a W&M program abroad for example or if you take summer classes on campus at W&M). The only grades that go into a W&M GPA are those earned at W&M or as part of a W&M program.

In order to get credit for a class taken elsewhere you do need to earn a C or higher. If you earn less than a C the class will not transfer to W&M (meaning you will not get any credit).

Thanks! I was also wondering what a passing grade for the digital info literacy test was?

cheeto01, are you referring to something W&M offers or are you asking about a class you’re taking elsewhere? Regardless of the class you take, W&M will only transfer a class if you get a C or higher. We do not generally accept the results of placement tests you take at other schools. In fact W&M doesn’t really use placement tests at all except for AP and IB results so testing out of something elsewhere will not transfer to W&M.

I was referring to the digital information literacy online test (testing us on databases, researching on the internet, etc.) that W&M requires for incoming students.

Unfortunately we don’t administer or grade that test so we’d encourage you to contact the Dean of Students Office (757-221-2510) for any information on that particular process.
