Summer classes..?

Thank you to everyone who helped me in my decision about transferring! I've decided to stay after I learned that the Economics and Mathematics Departments at NYU are respected.

At NYU (not sure about other schools), there are two summer sessions. I believe each is six weeks long. A class meets Mon-Thurs, two hours each. The maximum course load someone can have is 8 credits per session, 16 for the entire summer session. Thus, you would essentially be getting an extra semester in. I was thinking it might be a good idea to do this because I would be able to graduate as a Junior. I thought it might be good because I could use the extra year to get my MBA or start law school (not sure which yet). Also, I was hoping jobs might look at me higher for having the work ethic to complete it earlier. Also, the credits are cheaper (not by much) but the housing is much cheaper. (If you know about NYU, that's alot of money!) Would you guys think this is a good plan or is there a flaw that I'm overlooking?

I would not be able to comment on whether it is a flawed plan or not. Others may have ideas on that; certainly, I commend the way you are thinking it through.

My comment would be that going directly for an MBA (which I have from Stanford) is usually not a good plan. The better schools prefer you to have been out in the world of work for a couple of years; and I think that is a good plan no matter what Business school you might target. Don't know about law school, but if you are uncertain which you want to pursue, I think a couple of years in a job will help you choose your direction. Good luck.

JMHO,

The amount of money that you are saving over the long run is not much considering that you may have to attend summer school over 2 summers in order to knock off a full year worth of work.
I agree with jmmom, about graduating a year early with the thoughts of getting an MBA.

Use your summer to work, do a study abroad or look into getting a summer internship/job so when it comes time for you to apply for something you will have pursued all that the college offers.

good luck
