summer classes

due to the unfortunate decline of the economy like many of us know, i am unable to afford some of the schools i have been accepted to ( UMICH,UMIAMI,Brandeis) so i an going to be attending a local florda school FIU and going to transfer my sophmore year (hopefully) i was speaking to a college advisor from coloumbia (family friend) and he told me i should take some
summer classes at NYU this summer so i applied and they accepted me
to take summer classes which i can then transfer to FIU and he said when i reapply as a transfer the NYU classes will look good on my transcript, i was wondering if anyone has any input about taking summer classes at NYU? its the most affordable for me but i would like some additional input.

Thank you

What specifically are you looking for?

The only things I can tell you without knowing exactly what you want answered are the cost, hours, and instruction.

 1. Credits in most schools (Tisch, CAS, Gallatin) cost $1,170 or so each, meaning if you take one 4-credit class, you’re looking at basically $5,000 a pop. Stern classes run a bit higher. I took two classes my frosh summer for my minor and it wasn’t that cheap. 2. They’re typically set up to meet twice a week for four hours, so you get eight hours per class per week, take two and you’re either looking at four hours four times a week or eight hours a day twice a week, which in the summer can be a bit exhausting.
 2. Depending on which school you’re in, you probably won’t get tenured or tenure-track professors; they hire a lot of once-only profs for the summer, so the class experience you have might be very different from the experience someone taking it during the year had.

All in all it’s a great move if you’re looking to explore academically or graduate early, but I have no idea how it’ll affect your transfer apps. Were you looking to transfer back to the schools you were accepted as a freshman at or somewhere else?
