Summer classes?

So because the new MCAT includes biochem, I think I need to take summer courses.
I just finished with Bio 1 & 2 an Physics 1 and next year im taking Chem 1 & Physics 2.

My plan was: Take chem 1 and 2 over the summer. Then take orgo over my soph year. then biochem junior year in time for the mcat?
I know taking pre med reqs over the summer is kinda of bad but its the only way i'll be prepped enough for the mcat. good idea or no?

As a parent, I hate summer classes - because I have to pay for them. I hate giving my son’s university another 7-10K every summer on top of the 45K tuition per year. There - I vented it out :)

My son took Orgo1, Orgo2 and Orgo Lab along with another CS course during the summer after his freshman year. I was concerned about taking pre-requisites over summer and asked him to talk to his pre-health advisor. She assured him that as long as he doesn’t take too many of them over summer and especially since he was taking those at his own school, it’s fine. My son is at JHU. I also know for a fact that quite a few kids from Dartmouth and MIT flock to the summer Orgo classes at Harvard.

Bio Chem in fall of junior year is fine. My son did that and took his MCAT at the end of the winter break.

could you take non pre med classes over the summer? that would probably be better.

I forgot to mention that my son scored his worst science grades in those summer classes - a B+ in each of the Orgo classes. Without those B+s his sGPA would have been close to 4.0. He also realized that he didn’t remember much from those classes when he was preparing for MCAT, and had to go over that stuff all over again. Cramming 4 months worth of Organic Chemistry into 1 month gets nasty. The school advised those who took summer Orgo not to do anything else. He didn’t follow that advice either. He did another course, summer research and volunteering. He did those courses to gain some scheduling flexibility. In hind sight he regrets taking those classes.

I agree with IWBB. If you must take summer courses, take courses that are not pre-requisites.
