I'm thinking about taking on a couple social science courses this summer. Does anyone know how intense summer classes generally are at Cal? Someone told me that summer courses tend to be a lot easier than Fall or Spring courses, but for some reason that didn't sound right.

I tend to like the summer courses more as they’re much shorter, which IMO makes studying much easier. Even at the end of the course the info is still pretty fresh in your mind. Mid-term is in like the third week or so.

Yeah, they’re usually easier. Actually, I should do my hard classes this summer! Thanks! lol but usually GSIs teach courses over the summer and there’s not too much work. Well, at least not for the ones I took. Even though it’s shorter, it doesn’t seem any more intense to me. Think about it, if you have a lab once a week in the regular school year, and then in the summer you have it twice a week…you’re going to take one day to do the lab work anyways. If that makes any sense at all. lol

I think writing classes (R&Cs) are easier simply because most people don’t read the material anyways and it goes by much faster.
However, for science/math classes, just make sure you’re caught up with the material since if you’re behind by a week, you’re essentially behind by like 2-3 weeks in terms of fall/spring semester or something.

Yeah (s)he’s right. My R&C class had a few readings but we weren’t tested on it or expected to use it in any way lol.
