Hey guys. Im currently a student at Cornell and I want to take like 1 or 2 summer classes. I want to take them at colleges nearby my house. Im an engineer so I want to take the equivalent of PHYS 2213 and maybe MATH 2930 during the summer. Would it be bad to take them at a different university which is less prestigious than Cornell or are credits just credits and it doesnt matter? Thanks~

should be alright as long as these classes aren’t taken in some dubious institution - but these credits should not be classes that count toward your major/ more important classes. Also, some colleges require that you take a minimum of x credits within the college before you graduate so be careful. I would talk to an advisor if I were you.

As said above, just make sure you talk to your advisor first. If the department is familiar with the university, they’ll usually let you take the class for credit. If not, Cornell may ask for you to provide them with a syllabus from the course. I don’t think taking courses somewhere “less prestigious” matters all that much. Especially at the undergraduate level, you should be learning all the same basic material in the courses and especially in something like math. Cornell tends to push you harder, but that doesn’t mean there is more material per se, just the professors choosing to put harder questions on the exam and a harsher curve due to the caliber of students.
