Summer Dual Credit + Illegal Business Practices? What?

Hey everyone.

So my private high school offers dual credit courses in the Fall and Spring. But, some students wanted to take courses in the summer and the school said they would be fine with that, but the student would have to pay the high school $300 per half credit taken. Sounds fair, right?

Wrong. The community college that the school uses to do dual credit offers these courses for FREE. The courses are paid for by both the city AND the state. Thousands of students all around the city use the community college system to take dual credit courses in the Summer... FOR FREE. Not a SINGLE student pays the high school.

So say a student wants to take three courses in the summer. At the community college such as English Composition, History, and Government --- three credits --- the students would pay $900 to the HIGH SCHOOL. ??!!!

I spoke to the administration about this and they claimed that students are attempting to graduate early from the school, and to stop this, they have implemented this policy as if more students graduate early, the school might not be able to pay as teachers much.

What the ****? So they're putting a monetary cap on academic excellence? A couple of students wanted to do some kind of summer pre-college program at an Ivy League school, and the school flat out denied the students permission to do so, as not only can they control how much EXTRA money that the student pays the school, but they can deny the student from taking the course at all.

I'm pretty ****ed.

Anyone have any input on this, legally or ethically?

Thanks.

call the local college up to confront the school
