The auditions for college programs are just the begining. This profession that our children have chosen will take them all over the country, especially if they are attending the regional auditions for summer work (MTA, NETC, SETC, Strawhat). I thought I would start a thread to talk about where the kids are working in the summers and what the working/living conditions are like. Last summer I posted asking if anyone knew anything about Cedar Point and ended up getting an e-mail from a CCM student that I had previously responded to on CC. (it is a small world!) Turns out not only had she been hired at Cedar Point but she was in the same show as my daughter and ended up being her roomate. It was nice for the girls to go to off to Sandusky, Ohio already "knowing" someone and having a roomate lined up.

My daughter will be returning to Cedar Point for a second summer. If anyone has any questions about Cedar Point let me know. I know they will be auditioning at the MTA at Webster this weekend, and they will also be at SETC and Strawhat. Here is the Cedar Point link:

My daughter has also done two summers at Dorney Park and two summers at the Main Street Theatre(now the Centre for the Arts on Main.) so I'm sure she would be happy to answer any questions about those two places as well.

I posted this on the "Just Braggin' " thread, but it might be helpful here as well. My daughter will be returning to perform with the Utah Shakespearean Festival for the 2005 season ( May - early Sept. ) She was there last year as an acting intern through a NFAA previous award and it was a great experience. Utah Shakes is a prestigious regional theatre that runs 3 Shakespeare plays, 1 or 2 classic musicals, and a dramatic play and comedy. The company works as a repretory theatre so each actor performs several roles. I know the Festival auditions students from various undergraduate university programs that they have a special connection with: CMU and Otterbein are two that I know of. They also audition Penn State MFA candidates. The web site provides information regarding employment possibilites and is fun to surf as well with lots of neat links: www.bard.org
The contract provides a travel and housing stipend and pays pretty well for a novice actor still in school. We are looking forward to another visit west this summer!

Hi cbs! We spoke before. Thanks for offering info on Cedar Point. My d is auditioning for Strawhat on March 24; not sure if she'll get in or not, since they don't usually take under 18, from what I hear. If she does get a job at Cedar Point, I will certainly contact you! Hope your d is doing well!

Rossji, Good luck to your daughter at the strawhat auditions. You do have to be 18 to work at Cedar Point, but I'm sure she will get another great job. Make sure to let us know where she ends up.

Monkey, The Utah Shakespearean Festival sounds like a great place to be. Congrats to your daughter!

And I know it is early, but I'd love to hear where everyone ends up this summer. We never know where our kids are going to be from year to year and I would have loved to have someone to contact last year when we were trying to decide what was the best place to stay/eat/etc. when visiting Sandusky, Ohio.

Just wondering if anyone auditioned at NETCs in Boston this past weekend and if so how they made out. Also, good luck to everyone auditioning at Strawhats next weekend. Keep us posted on where you end up this summer.

I posted this on Summer Programs, but I thought I'd post it here as well. Has anyone heard of College Light Opera Company in Cape Cod, MA? I'd appreciate any info you may have. Thanks!

Anyone know anyone that has been in the lab company at the Hanger Theatre in Ithaca, NY? A friend's son is considering it and I'd appreicate any info. Thanks!!

Ooh! I love the Barn Playhouse! My Grandparents bring me there whenever I go to visit them! They do lots of fun shows, very enjoyable nights of theater. I know that Taye Diggs used to do shows there, and Stephen Schwartz has been there on numerous occasions. My younger sisters were in a prodction of Annie Warbucks(the sequal to Annie) and had a blast!
Hope this helped!

My d just found out today that she has been offered a summer job in Lees-McRae Summer Theatre in the mountains of NC. She is going to be in ensemble/dancer roles, but considering that most were cast after attending NCTC and SETC, and a few professionals were offered the principle roles prior to any auditions, we are very excited! (and the pay is not bad either!)

Question? Are most of these jobs going to kids already in college?
My son won't graduate until June 10th and has to be at college by August 15th so that doesn't leave a lot of time for summer theatre jobs. He did audition for the major amusement park here, they wanted him to start rehersals May 16th so he couldn't take the job. He will be done by early May next year but classes still start the end of August. ??? What's generally the cylce?

My d will be graduating from h.s. on May 29. The theater job she got is for most of July through August 11. She has to be at OCU on August 14 (16 hours away!) I know this doesn't leave her with much time, but we will work it out and the extra spending money will be so nice to have for school. My d had previously been offered a job as a performer at an amusement park also, but when they found out her time frame, they rescinded the offer. She is hoping that her schedule next year will allow for more employment opportunities.
