Summer/Fall 2013 Decisions Thread

When should I do the math placement exam?

Emailed Dr. Chavis and he told me I’m still being reviewed… this it taking forever

I think after you pay the deposit, they will email you with instructions for the math placement. What I am not sure is if you take it during orientation or before that.
Chemistry test is also suggested for some majors.

It’s suggested that you take it before orientation

How long does it take for them to email it? I was accepted dec.19 and it says the math placement exam is initiated but I never received instructions on how to login

Hey guys, this has kind of turned into a “I’ve been accepted thread” and I’m still waiting. Lol. However, my stats have changed. I now have a 3.6 WGPA and got a 27 on my ACT. I am resubmitting my transcripts as of Friday and think I’m going to email Dr. Chavis to kind of put a rush on things. I’m trying to be hopeful but anybody have any advice or if I really have a chance?

I’m sorry for asking but do you know Dr. Chavis e-mail? I can’t seem to find it on the website.

Did you got a response? It happen to me too!

It happen to me! Did you get a response?

that math placement test is too damn difficult lmao

Accepted for Summer 2013!
ACT: 22
GPA: 4.2 WEIGHTED

Not a great ACT score, but I think my essay really pulled through for me.

So excited!

Congratulations!
My son was accepted too, and will attend summer 2013.

That’s awesome–Thank you!

Rejected. Info posted here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1451254-university-central-florida.html

Are you going to appeal? Are you able to appeal?

I’m not sure I have grounds to appeal. I’ve made sure they received every document, updated transcripts, everything. I guess they just looked at the few reasons to reject me instead of the million reasons to accept me. I’m not going to lie, it’s quite shocking. I thought I had built a good enough of a case, but I guess not.

Either way, I know that I’m capable of achieving something much higher. Maybe UCF just isn’t where I was supposed to be. Maybe life is giving me another chance at being up there where I’ve always dreamed by allowing me a clean slate with a community college. Given my AP scores, I’m sure I’d be out of there in a semester. A year tops.

(I’m really sorry if I’m sounding pompous or pretentious… I’m just trying to encourage myself that there is still something going for me. I’m really bummed out about this)

@Hopeful, that’s how things are sometimes and we don’t really understand, but most of the time it’s for the best. There is nothing wrong with CC and if you want to succeed it doesn’t matter where you start. I just saw your “chance me” post, and I really thought you’d get in. Although your GPA is low (which I understand given your reasoning), the rest of the application was spot on for UCF with a decent ACT and great ECs. Wherever you go, I am positive you’re set do well and It’s clear that you are ready and able to put your grades as a priority right now. Have you applied any other colleges in FL (guessing you’re instate) besides FSU/STETSON? There is always a chance, and you also have the possibility to go to Santa Fe and then transfer to UCF, since they accept 100% of those who apply from that CC. Best of luck to you, I truly hope you stay energetic about your education wherever you go, because that’s what will set you apart, not where you went for college.

I hope everything works out for you. Going to a community college isn’t bad at all. My favorite English teacher did for a year before going to an awesome lac then Columbia. He’s even published. X)

I completely agree with Ares, by the way. USF is still accepting applications and while I’m not sure whether or not it’s easier to be accepted, I do know they have a smaller applicant pool and are just smaller. This hopefully means they’ll have the time to give your application a longer look. I’ve been to UNF’s campus before (jazz festival my school band participated in) and it seemed to be a good school. I don’t know much about any others, unless you’re open to New College of Florida’s out of the box curriculum.

I will be going to Santa Fe and try to transfer into Duke or George Washington University (the two places I’ve always wanted to go to but didn’t bother applying due to my grades). I’ll also apply for UF transfer.

I really do think this is life’s way of giving me a second change. A clean slate, a new GPA. High school no longer matters. Now that I’ve been on the rough road, I know what lays ahead of me. Now that I’ve made mistakes, I now what to do and what not to do. Maybe this is life’s way of giving me a second chance to get into stop schools like Duke or UVA after a while at Santa Fe. So now I have to take this chance and do my absolute best with it. I’m going to make it… it’s just the path to get where I wanted will be a little different than intended.
