Summer Housing Question- D.C.

Hello! I advise several of my athletes who are students from a rural community. One of them has been offered a three week internship experience through some contacts that I have from an old internship I did several years ago. This would be a great experience for this particular student, but the family has no family/friends in the area. I was wondering if anyone is aware of housing available to high school students (17 years old) in the D.C. area for the purpose of summer internships?

Thanks!

ched222, two years ago, my son interned at the Holocaust Museum in D.C. He stayed at the George Washington University dorms. It was quite reasonable, but he had two other roomates, and the apartment style dorm was small, and certainly not at all luxurious. There was no complaining,in fact, he loved it. The rest of the family stopped by once over the summer, and it seemed the building was filled with happy young college students having a great time in D.C. As we are limited financially, he had to live on the very little money he made in a very expensive city. The frugal kids were very innovative, lots of nights different groups “hosted” making dinner, and they all frequented the many free museums and events in D.C. Definitely check out the GW dorms, I don’t think it could be much better for a young person. Hope this helps, and you are a nice friend to inquire for the young man. Good luck!

I believe American University also offers summer housing in its dorms. you also might want to check out some of the youth traveler hostels and the Ys. Also, see if there are any sublets available on Craigs List.

I just saw summer housing offered on GWU’s housing pages. Good luck.
