So last year was the first year that D and I ever heard of summer intensives. She auditioned for two, was accepted, and picked the one we could afford (due to a scholarship). This Sunday she auditioned for the LINES summer intensive and she got an email today she was waitlisted. We didn’t even know that was a thing, but my question is… are waitlists just soft rejections like some colleges do? Like everyone is either accepted or waitlisted? Just a curiosity question, really- she went for the one day intensive and stayed for the audition because it was included in the price (extra ballet for free- yay!), so we never thought she was going to get in or go or anything.
I don’t think a waitlist is a soft no for most intensives. You might get a better answer for this over on Ballet Talk for Dancers, though.
@threegirlpileup, I tried there first! Ha! Thank you! Just trying to figure out what everything means as we go. I definitely didn’t expect to hear anything from them that quickly. The two last year were something like 2-4 weeks to get a decision.
I agree that a summer intensive waitlist is not a soft no. My daughter has been waitlisted and then offered a spot and been waitlisted but ultimately never offered a spot. She’s also been flat out told no from a couple of places.
I agree with everyone else. Summer intensives do give no’s. On a side note, my D has attended the Lines intensive and loved it! Having a class with Alonzo King was a dance life changing moment for her.
@elmom25 I’ve heard that from others as well. Unfortunately it was never in the cards for my D. She attended the audition because it was included in the price of the intensive and she figured more dancing for free. Ha. There was never any chance we could afford for her to attend anyway. We are definitely in a social strata that makes me glad she didn’t start dance earlier because there is just no way we could’ve afford all this kind of stuff. Heck, even with a full tuition scholarship it would have been impossible. She was there for the experience of the day. Anyway, thank you!
Dance Intensives often have WL because dancers are auditioning all multiple programs and then once they find out where they got in, they pick … so spots usually open up for the WL.
My DS attended LINES summer and a winter intensive. He loved it. The summer intensive (going into his sophomore year) really opened his eyes and made him want to pursue dance seriously.
