Summer internship as incoming freshman

I recently got accepted early decision to Cornell. Now I'm planning my summer and I see that many internships require them to be done for college credit. Is there any way I can make this count as credit as an incoming freshman? And if you don't know, who should I contact at Cornell that could help me answer this question? Thanks.

It is not required internship to be counted toward college credit for it to be non paying. The reason some firms have such a requirement is because they do not want to have any problem with the labor department. As long as you are not replacing a full time employee and it is a learning experience for you then you shuld be fine. To be able to get college credit is the strictest restriction for an internship without pay.

I don’t know why you would want to or need to do a summer internship without pay this summer. I don’t think it is really going to help you that much in the future. Why not get a no brainer summer job that pays. If you couldn’t get one with pay then hang out at a pool with friends or just play some video games. You will not get another summer like this again.

Thanks for the input.

The main reason I want to do this is because my parents won’t let me just hang out around the house the whole summer and I figure that since I make a decent amount of money a few other ways, why not do something much more interesting/fulfilling? Most of my other friends are going to work too so we’re still going to hang out at night and on weekends, obviously. This is only replacing me sleeping until noon and then being bored until my friends get off work.

Do some volunteer work. Tutor some kids. Help some kids (underprivileged) with their college essays.
