Hey Guys!

So I am a high school junior that just got accepted into a PAID summer internship at EECS at UCB ( they only pick two internees and I will be working in the Microfabrication lab). Cal is my dream school-does this better my chances??

Thanks a bunch!:)

I imagine it'll help, honestly, if you do something that sets you apart from other EECS applicants. Have good grades + test scores, and if your internship goes well, I think your chances for Cal EECS are rather good.

I'm actually not 100% I want to do EECS though. Both my parents did it and they just advised me to try it out. Would it look bad if I applied under another major in the chance that I don't really like it?

Did you get in because of your grades or your parents contacts? Asking to find out is this internship open to everyone? what qualifications do they look for?

Oh I didn't mean they did the program- they both just majored in Electrical Engineering and encouraged me to see if I like it as a potential major choice. You get in because of your grades, EC's, SAT scores and leadership qualities. Unfortunately, they are not accepting anymore because the application deadline was in Jan. Def next year though!

Research is research, no matter how you got that opportunity. I think this internship will add more to your application. It automatically sets you apart from those who have not pursued their interests.

yes, thank you! :)
